FCA issued a recall for more than 1.2 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks over concerns a defect could cause their electronic stability control (ESC) systems to become disabled while the vehicle is in drive.
The Ram 1500 recall involves certain model year 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 pickup truck vehicles produced between Oct. 31, 2017, and Feb. 14, 2024.
FCA, which said the issue keeps the vehicles from complying with federal motor vehicle safety standards, attributed the problem to a software malfunction within the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system that can disable the ESC system, potentially causing a crash.
“Failure of the ESC system when intervention is expected and/or relied upon can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the Ram 1500 recall says.
FCA to notify affected Ram 1500 vehicle owners in early October
FCA plans to remedy the issue by updating the ABS control module software on the recalled Ram 1500 vehicles, according to the recall.
The automaker said it plans to notify affected Ram 1500 vehicle owners about the recall Oct. 3. Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact FCA by telephone at 1-800-853-1403.
Vehicle owners with more questions about the recall may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
FCA issued a separate recall for 131,700 Ram 1500 pickup trucks in April over concerns they may have an issue with their powertrain software.
